If you are amongst the millions of people not too happy with the Skype application currently available for Windows Phone 8, well, here’s some good news coming your way. Microsoft has just released an updated version of Skype for Windows Phone 8. This brings in some major updates to the app – the most important of which is support for HD Calling.
Other feature additions include complete integration with the Windows Phone People Hub and support for hardware acceleration. Skype has put up a blog post detailing the new features of the application. Skype clarifies that users would be able to make VGA quality calls on lower end handsets and 720p quality calls on higher end devices. The latter of course include the likes of the Nokia Lumia 920, HTC 8X and Samsung Ativ S. The application automatically determines the network connectivity speed and automatically adjusts the quality of the call. Another feature addition is the ability to use the app in both landscape and portrait mode.
Users can also switch from one account to another by simply tapping their profile picture and selecting “switch accounts”. One major grouse with the older application was its inability to reliably run in the background. That issue has now been reportedly fixed.
Here is an entire list of issues that have been fixed.
