The head of Microsoft’s Windows Phone program, Joe Belfiore has revealed why the promised update for Windows Phone 7 devices has been delayed. The major update that was supposed to be implemented by now would have enabled the much sought after copy paste functionality for most Windows Phone handsets out there. However, for some reason, the update is yet to arrive.
Speaking at the MIX 2011 conference Joe Belfiore clarified that it was due to a particular manufacturer that they had to delay the update. Apparently, phones from this unrevealed manufacturer would have faced issues had the update been issued. Microsoft chose to wait for the problem to be sorted before releasing the update.
“We felt it would be better to be a little bit patient, make sure that when we get updates out that they would happen reliably, and unfortunately that caused a delay in getting things out,” said Belfiore.
Belfiore however added that subsequent updates to the platform would not be delayed. Windows Phone is set to receive a bunch of updates in the coming months with this copy paste being just one major feature addition. The first ever update for Windows Phone 7 was issued last month and was marred by issues with quite a few phones ending up bricked after the update process. That issue has however been sorted since then.
