You might have heard that world’s first 1TB SSD thing before, but the fact remains that PureSilicon’s 1TB SSD neither saw the light of the day nor was it ever available in any of the markets worldwide. Hence technically we can assume OCZ’s 2.5″ 1TB SSD to be the first.
The OCZ’s octane series coupled with a new controller called Everest by Indilinx boasts of a lot of impressive features which include read speeds of up to 560MB/s and write speeds of 400MB/s. The device also has an approximate life of about 10 years, assuming that you don’t put it to rugged use, which can be credited to the almost doubled NAND life on the device.
More importantly, the OCZ 1TB SSD will retain its speed performance even after many use cycles which usually not the case with such SSD’s. The device also boasts of Indilinx’s fast boot or Latency Reduction technology thus bringing down the boot times to a bare minimum of 0.06ms to read and 0.09ms to write, a time reduction of almost 50% from the best out there in the market.
These 2.5″ 1TB drives are rumored to be a part of LG’s upcoming ultrabooks. The best thing about these drives is that they are available in multiple sizes and ranges starting from 120GB for $156, 240GB for $288, 480GB for $528, and 1TB for $1,100. These will be shipped starting 1st November.
