Xiaomi has gained popularity in India significantly thanks to its flash sale. Every single device they got to India was sold out in a matter of seconds. With the huge popularity of their devices here, Xiaomi is now launching the Redmi 2 (Redmi 1S successor) and their Mi Pad tablet in India. The devices are packed with impressive hardware and as usual the sticker price is mouth watering.
Redmi 2
The Redmi 1S was the first device that got the manufacturer through the door in India. Impressive specs at an affordable price was what the people really needed. The Redmi 2 has a lot in common with the phone it replaced. The phone has a 4.7 inch IPS display is fully laminated with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. The display has wide 178 degree viewing angles and a healthy 312PPI pixel density. The internals get a little refreshment, the Snapdragon 400 has been replaced by a newer Snapdragon 410 quad core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. The new processor is much faster and is 64 bit enabled. Coupled with 1GB of RAM the device should offer decent performance for the price.
At the back it sports an 8 megapixel BSI sensor which helps in low lighting conditions and infrared sensor protection improves image quality is broad daylight. The 2 megapixel front facing camera is good for clicking selfies and also applies various filter to it if you wish. The primary camera is capable of recording videos at 1080p whereas the front facing camera manages 720p video. The Redmi 2 runs MIUI 6 on top of Android 4.4 Kitkat and comes with Xiaomi’s customizations. It has 8GB of internal memory that is expandable via a MicroSD card slot by another 32GB. Mi Pad
The Mi Pad is Xiaomi’s first tablet to reach Indian shores. The device boasts amazing specifications on paper and comes at a ridiculously low price. The Mi Pad sports a 7.9 inch IPS display with a resolution of 2048×1536 pixels (4:3 ratio) with a 326PPI pixel density same as Apple’s Retina Display. The device rocks a Nvidia K1 Tegra Quad core processor clocked at 2.2GHz and has 2GB of RAM. The processor is the same like the Nvidia Shield Gaming Tablet and it has an Nvidia GPU with 192 CUDA cores. This makes it a gaming device capable of playing the most graphic intensive games with ease.
As of now only the 16GB Wifi model will be on sale and Xiaomi is considering bringing the 64GB model as well. The Mi Pad has a MicroSD card slot that can be used to expand the storage to 128GB. The tablet runs on Xiaomi’s MIUI 6 on top of Android 4.4 Kitkat. The tablet interface is a little different than the one on their phones and misses out on the customization parts Xiaomi is well know for. It features an 8 megapixel camera at the back without flash and a 5 megapixel front facing camera. The tablet has a huge 6700mAh battery and should deliver good battery life.
