Since a couple of weeks, Xiaomi has been teasing that it will be launching “DeshKaSmartphone” on 30th November. The day has arrived, and the company has officially announced the Redmi 5A budget phone. The Chinese firm had debuted the smartphone in the home country in October this year and now it has finally arrived in India. The Redmi 5A for India is a “Made in India” product and it comes with customized features for the country that are unavailable on the Chinese variant.
Design and Display
The Redmi 5A features a metallic chassis that measures 140.4 x 70.1 x 8.4mm and weighs 137 grams. Xiaomi claims that it has successfully checked the durability of the Redmi 5A by dropping it multiple times on six different surfaces from a height of 1 meter. Elegant Gold, Dark Gray and Rose Gold are the three color variants of the smartphone. It features a 5-inch IPS LCD display that produces HD resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels.
Performance and Variants
The Redmi 5A is fueled by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset. Th same chipset powers the predecessor Redmi 4A phone and the newly unveiled Redmi Y1 Lite smartphone. Like the Xiaomi Mi A1 Android One phone, the Redmi 5A also features dual pyrolitic graphite sheets that helps in controlling the internal temperature of the smartphone.
The base model of the Redmi 5A has 2 GB of RAM and an internal storage of 16 GB. The higher model includes 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. The Redmi 4A phone featured a hybrid dual SIM slot, but its successor phone has a dedicated slot for microSD card apart from two SIM card slots.
The Redmi 5A includes a 3,000mAh battery. The new charger that is available with the smartphone can support up to 380V and also possess the ability to handle power fluctuations.
Camera and Software
The rear side of the Redmi 5A is fitted with a 13-megapixel sensor. It is accompanied by features like LED flash, HDR, Panorama and filters for beautifying images. It has a front-facing camera of 5-megapixel.
It is pre-installed with Android 7.0 Nougat that is overlaid with the latest MIUI 9 skin. Like the other budget-friendly Redmi phones, the Redmi 5A also features a IR blaster that will allow users to use it as a remote control for electronic devices such as set-top box, TV and AC.
Pricing and Availability
The base model of the Xiaomi Redmi 5A carries a pricing of Rs. 5,999. The higher variant costs Rs. 6,999. Xiaomi has recently dethroned Samsung to become the numero uno smartphone brand in India. In order to celebrate this magnificent achievement, the Chinese firm is offering the base model of Redmi 5A with a reduced pricing of Rs. 4,999 to its first 5 million customers.
Xiaomi will start the sales of the Redmi 5A through Mi.com, Mi Home stores and its exclusive online retailer partner Flipkart from 12 PM on 7th December. The other offline partners will also soon begin the sales of Redmi 5A
