Xiaomi has introduced a brand-new series of smartphones called Redmi Y in India today. The Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite are the first smartphones that belong to the new lineup. In August, Xiaomi had unveiled the Redmi Note 5A and Note 5A Prime smartphones in China. These phones have been respectively rebranded as Redmi Y1 Lite and Redmi Y1 for the Indian market.
Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Specifications and Features
The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 that features a polycarbonate chassis with a metallic finish appears like a larger version of the Redmi 4A smartphone. It houses a 5.5-inch LCD screen that carries support for Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The screen is protected by a layer with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
The f/2.0 aperture 16-megapixel selfie camera that is coupled with an LED flash is the most attractive feature of the phone. It offers 76-degree field of view. The back panel features a dual-LED enabled 13-megapixel snapper. The phone comes preloaded with MIUI 8 flavored Android Nougat OS. It will be upgraded to MIUI 9 before the end of this month. The fingerprint scanner is placed on the rear side of the phone.
The Snapdragon 435 chipset is present under the hood of the device. Its base model has 32 GB of storage and 3 GB of RAM. The 64 GB model has 4 GB of RAM. Unlike the recent Redmi 4 and Redmi Note 4 phones, the Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite do not feature a hybrid SIM slot. Hence, these phones come with a dedicated slot for adding a microSD card. The Redmi Y1 includes a 3,080mAh battery that should be able to last for an entire day.
