I wish we were as good playing with words as Yu seem to be with their numbers, but the headline was pretty much the best we could come up with. In an industry where being out with the most accurate news quickest is what wins you your brownie points, the Micromax sister firm, Yu took everybody for a long ride today.
The Yu Yunicorn, was announced with a 5.5 inch Full HD display protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The phone is powered by an OctaCore MediaTek P10 chipset with 4GB of RAM. There is 32GB internal storage, which can be expanded further by using a hybrid SIM slot. There is a 13MP rear shooter and a 5MP front-facing camera on the device. On the battery side of the story, you have a 4000 mAh battery with fast charging.
The Yu Yunicorn runs on a nearly stock Android 5.1 experience, though Yu are calling it Android on Steroids, which basically includes some customizations like a vertical app drawer, monochrome mode, one tap sign in etc. There is a fingerprint scanner built into the Home button of the smartphone that unlocks it within .2 seconds. The Yu Yunicorn will be available in a choice of colors including Silver, Graphite and Rush Gold. The Around Yu service has been upgraded to v2.0 with key partnerships including Uber, Ola, Ixigo integrated. There is also a Yu Wallet that comes pre-loaded with INR 400 on the device. The phone sports a metallic body and Yu are calling it their best effort at designing a phone yet.

The interesting part about the phone is its pricing. It was initially announced that the phone would be selling for Rs 19,999 via flash sale as an exclusive on Flipkart. This was later revised to Rs 17,999. If that was not enough, the price slab was broken and the final price of the device was announced to be Rs 12,999. But hold on, that is not the final price, it is the prize only for the first month, post which the phone would sell for Rs 14,999. And if you can digest more, SBI is offering a 10% cashback on the first sale of the device which brings the effective price to Rs 11,700. And if you still have some energy left, you can go ahead and register for te first flash sale, starting at 2PM today.

Edit: Make that six. Information was conveyed by the PR at Yu that the price after the first month would be Rs 13,499 and not 14,999.
