Indian mobilephone maker Zen Mobiles has announced a new handset that would expand its current lineup of “Ultraphone” branded Android handsets. The phone, christened the Ultraphone U4 boasts of a 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Aimed at the budget user on the lookout for an affordable smartphone, the phone is priced at an affordable Rs.5999. The official price however is Rs.6499. We are stating the current online price for the device.
Powering the Ultraphone U4 is a 1 GHz processor which is ably supported by 1 GB of RAM. This would ensure that the phone doesn’t suffer issues related to low RAM – as seen on the Micromax A87. The Ultraphone U4 like most of its direct competition, features dual SIM connectivity. The imaging bit is taken care of by a 3.2 megapixel rear camera with support for LED flash. The phone gets comprehensive connectivity options – including GPRS/ EDGE, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. HSDPA support has been given a miss. So please note this if you intend to use this one with a 3G network!
Under the hood, powering the hardware is an adequate sounding 1200 mAH battery that claims to endow the device with 5 hours of talktime and upto 144 hours of standby time.
The device comes preloaded with popular apps that include Facebook, Twitter, Opera, Whats app, Office Suit, Just Dial, Crickbuzz, Google Maps, Skype, Youtube.
This is a decent competitor to the A87 from Micromax and gets more RAM and a larger display. However, do note the lack of 3G connectivity which might be a major factor for many users.
