Android Twist: Motorola buys mobile OS maker Azingo

While Palm Inc went to HP and its certain that HP would roll out WebOS powered handsets soon, another hot topic of discussion is rapidly spreading through the web over Motorola’s acquisition of ‘Azingo‘ a company which makes its own Linux based mobile operating system, Azingo Mobile 2.0.

This might mean that Motorola my ditch the Android platform and work on the newly acquired Azingo Mobile 2.0 which already includes an application suite featuring a Webkit-based browser, web runtime, Flash runtime and a full developer tools or have Azingo handsets along with its Android lineup.

Motorola Co-CEO has hinted that he would really like Motorola to have its own mobile OS, and he considers it to be a very important thing. Something really strange about this new revelation is Motorola’s partnership with Google as both companies are in a very strong partnership, and the Motorola Droid is the most popular and bestselling Android device out there.

It is yet unknown how Azingo will affect Motorola. Can it really be Motorola’s very own mobile OS or its just the talent pool at Azingo that Motorola wanted? Well, I guess we will have to wait for that.

  • Surprised that media is so poor in getting this news. Motorola acquired just human resources and the technology of Azingo in the last week of March. Poor VC (Garnett and helfrich) is been duped that Azingo is in losses, promoters declared the company as bankrupt and just sold human resources. Who made money? Obviously promoters of Azingo. All Azingo employees were fired and were given fresh offers by Motorola. Foolish Motorola believes that they can do wonders with Azingo’s platform which infact has lot of bugs when I mean lot then I mean tonnes. Performance issues, bugs junk resources I believe Azingo had a good deal by getting acquired by Mot and Mot, god save Mot they would probably look for a top position from bottom.
