Will you use the briefcase laptop?

March 20th, 2010

Playing By Heart concept by Zhang Shouze sure gives you the 21st century businessman the most relevant briefcase in today’s world. With cloud computing taking over work & smartphones getting smarter at-least I don’t see too many people carrying with laptops in the near future.

Now that’s one weird laptop design and something many of us would find impractical to use in day to day life. Supporting the slanting keyboard (looks ergonomical) and clinging to the hinge is the handle that gives the closed notebook a briefcase look (yeah a small hack). Whoever goes to production with this, better make this well rugged (specially if this is how one travels :) ). (more…)

ATT introduces eco-friendly Zero charger

March 19th, 2010

AT&T has announced its new Zero charger that is expected to save some energy without requiring any fancy gadgetry. The charger completely eliminates the “Vampire draw” or the energy drawn by the charger when not in use. The charger stops drawing any power when the phone is fully charged or when there is no phone plugged in to the charging cord.

The charger is USB compatible and would ship in a recycled-cardboard container. Apart from saving energy, it would also save the phone’s battery from being damaged due to over charging. AT&T has not announced the pricing of the device yet. It is expected to be available in May 2010.

Gorillapod: Geeky portable magnetic tripod

February 19th, 2010

Amateur photographers often use the digital cameras for photography and avoid carrying a tripod for its bulky nature. Another limitation of using traditional tripods is that they can be mounted only on flat surfaces. Gorillapod Magnetic allows the user to mount it on any magnetic surface while still keeping the camera bag lightweight.

The Gorillapod from Joby weighs only 45 grams and can hold cameras that weight upto 325 grams. It uses the universal 1/4″ tripod screw for connecting to the camera. The flexible legs can be wrapped around any surface and the magnetic feet allow it to be attached to any magnetic surface. This allows its user to take pictures in any angles and also avoids the need for a flat base.

The Gorillapod Magnetic is available for a price of (more…)

Digital Cosmetic Mirror – the future of beauty treatments [Video]

February 11th, 2010

Choosing the right kind of make-up can be time consuming and skin damaging too. Keeping these issues under consideration, Shiseido has developed a Digital Cosmetic Mirror.

The mirror has a built-in camera that scans the user’s face and then different types of virtual make-up can be tested on the scanned image. The mirror provides recommendations on the latest make-up trends and also has options for different make-up styles which can be browsed through a touchscreen. It provides a print-out of ‘before and after’ image along with the purchase details for the make-up.  The digital cosmetic mirror not only helps the user to choose the best make-up, but also helps in avoiding the blunders of experimenting.

While the mirror would save customer’s time, it would also help the cosmetic industry to save some cost with the end of samples and testers. Do check the video of the Shiseido’s Digital Cosmetic Mirror in action. (more…)

Neon Green Soular backpack

February 11th, 2010

While onlygizmos has been covering a lot of green technology of late. Here is another one that has caught our attention. This one looks like a normal backpack (durable more importantly) but upon closer inspection you might realise that it has a solar panel attached to it. Must say that its a really good effort for the bag to look so clean and durable even after being fitted with solar panels. See the below image for more info:

The solar panel is easily detachable from the backpack and can also be used as a carry bag separately. There is no pricing information available for this one on their website.
