Google’s Fiber Going Wireless? Upto 1 Gigabit Per Second

Google Fiber is Google’s way of making the web faster, much faster than you can imagine to everyone. At up to 1,000 Mbps, Google Fiber is 100 times faster than today’s basic broadband, allowing you to get what you want instantly. It also aims to make it more affordable, more relevant and more useful.

Unlike Project Loon which aims at providing Internet through high altitude balloons. Google Fiber aims at providing 1 gigabit (1000 megabits per second) Internet, provided by fiber-optic cables instead of the century-old copper cables.

Just when you think Facebook is trying to take a lead in this race. Google steps up and proves that they are not behind. Recently in a public notice, Google asked the U.S FCC permission to carry out tests in California across different wireless spectrums, including a rarely used millimetre frequency capable of transmitting large amounts of data.

Although, the information presented may not portray a clear picture of what Google exactly intends to do, but it does signal that Google is taking Internet into its own hands. The technology which is presently being tested may form the basis of wireless connection that can be broadcasted to homes, eliminating the need for an actual ground connection. By providing blazing internet services, Google would open a new path thoroughly dominated by Verizon, AT&T and other cable and broadband providers. Fiber may also be one of the reason for the cable networks to increase their bandwidth.

“You could look at it as a possible wireless extension of their Google Fiber wireless network, as a way to more economically serve homes. Put up a pole in a neighbourhood, instead of having to run fibre to each home” said Crowley.

The purpose of this test would be to test radios in a way so as to understand if they are likely to contribute to the development, extension or utilization of the radio art. Google noted that the tests are for narrow-bandwidth transmissions. According to Crowley, It will not be transmitting data over the networks, but sending simple pings between locations to measure how the signals travel over distances.

Google has been passionate about providing Internet to everyone. Because the more the ‘Internet’ users, the more the Google users. And now it is clearly improvising on its speed. The company said it wants to roll out Fiber to more than 30 U.S. cities. We hope you speed up, Google!
