Limera1n Jailbreak Tool for iOS 4.1 Arrives

After discovering a new Bootrom exploit and working for over six months, Geohot has released his limera1n to jailbreak iOS 4.1 and iOS 3.2.2 based devices.

The release of comes just a day before the release of greenpois0n by the Chronic Dev team. Geohot says that he purposefully timed his release before the the Chronic Dev Team because he wanted them “to do the right thing”.

So what all can you do with limera1n?

Well its Jailbreaking (and not unlocking)

For unlocking, you will need to use the PwnageTool which will preserve the baseband while updating the iPhone to iOS 4.1. As expected, there are some issues with the limera1n RCI as posted by Geohot in an update to his post.

These include.

  • Restart needed to get the Cydia icon to show up after installing Cydia
  • Non support for Beta iOS versions
  • No iPod Touch 2G support
  • Uninstall in limera1n app doesn’t work

After the release of limera1n, p0sixninja of the Chronic Dev team has confirmed that they would be using the exploit used in limera1n to their greenpois0n release scheduled for today. This also means that the ShaTTER exploit would be “preserved” for iOS 4.2

Note that limera1n RC1 is available only for Windows users. Mac and Linux versions are in the “coming soon” list.

Before you embark on your jailbreaking adventure, let us once again remind you that doing this would void your warranty.
Happy Jailbreaking! You can also head to iPhonehelp.in for more detailed instructions.
