LinkedIn’s Pulse Latest Update Serves Stories Based On LinkedIn

The news reading app, Pulse acquired by LinkedIn in 2013 has unveiled a new update for its iOS and Android app. This update includes cleaner user interface which includes gestures similar to popular app like Tinder. The new feature includes swipe gesture, swipe-left to reject and swipe right to save.

Akshay Kothari, the co-founder of Pulse led the development of the news app. Being a reader, he believed that organizing wasn’t solely enough. Device processing speeds were getting better. Simply optimizing the aggregation and reading was hard to remain compelling. This is the reason the new update makes the app exciting.

Also, Pulse willl now take into consideration a user’s LinkedIn connections, reading interests, comments on LinkedIn and place of work. It will also provide user a selection of news after scrolling through their LinkedIn ‘professional graph’. These consist of a combination of resume details, network connections and content that users choose to read on the platform. The users can still add specific publications along with the newly provided news feed. Any user using the current Pulse app can continue to do so until the end of this year.

The Pulse’s news feed extracts data from some 250,000 sources. The news feed will include a selection of news and magazine sources. Apart from this, there will also be content from LinkedIn’s own publishing efforts.

LinkedIn has been trying to widen its platform and is been trying to be something more than just a portal for new job recruitment. It wants people to spend more time on the platform which will help LinkedIn. LinkedIn wants to broaden it horizon in other businesses like advertising.

As of now, Pulse is completely ad-free and the company is yet to decide how ads will appear on pulse. A team is dedicated towards building the ad experience. This ad feature can be integrated whenever they want, Kothari added.
