Twitter for Zune has released

December 17th, 2009

twitter for zune hd

Like we had informed you a short while ago, the Twitter application for Zune HD is here. The application is available for download from Windows Marketplace for free. With only a limited number of applications available for Microsoft’s multimedia player, this Twitter application will surely help in increasing its popularity.

The Twitter app for Zune is not that good though. Within hours of its release, users started reporting a few bugs, and some were not happy with the apparent language censorship either. It seems to have (more…)

Retweet Limited Rollout : Official Retweet (in Beta) by Twitter

November 7th, 2009

retweet_official

The most popular feature of Twitter is interestingly something that was not invented by Twitter. We are talking about the RT – or the “Retweet” – option. We do not know how exactly the Retweet function started, but we surely know that it got Twitter interested. Twitter has been working on the Retweet function (of its own) for a long time now, and has finally made it live – at least in beta form.

Twitter has launched a limited edition of the official Retweet feature. This is available to (more…)

Twitter officialy including Retweet as a feature

September 21st, 2009

retweet

Looking at the popularity of RT or retweet, twitter has decided to include it as a feature on the microblogging platform. The plan to officially accept retweet has been named as project retweet.

Twitter also released a pic (above) which shows how the retweet feature would look on the microblogging platform. The retweet would show the people who have retweeted a tweet along with their thumbnails under the retweet.

Popularity of retweets is not the only reason for twitter to include it as a feature. Making retweet a function would also reduce confusion to the people new to tweeter.

BTW for the ones who do not know, retweet or RT is (more…)

Pretweeting is the new trend

September 3rd, 2009

money-via-twitter

You have been tweeting and re-tweeting on Twitter so far. But the next big thing seems to be this little thing called “pretweeting”.

Pretweeting is all about predicting the next Twitter trends. For example, the top trends right now are H1N1, Snow Leopard, Labor Day or AT&T. If you can look into the crystal ball and guess what the next trend will be on Twitter, or what people will be tweeting about the most, then you are well-suited for pretweeting.

The Pretweeting app works pretty much like a virtual stock market. It gives you US$10,000 in virtual money to buy and sell the latest trends. Every word has a rate and you can buy many words and sell a particluar one off if the word increases in popularity. The in-trend words are costlier. So all you have to do is buy the words that you predict would be the next hot topic of discussion on Twitter. If it really happens and (more…)

O2-Twitter deal, free twitter updates to O2 users

July 16th, 2009

o2twitter

O2 recently announced its agreement with Twitter which would allow the O2 users to get twitter updates via SMS. The deal would allow all O2 users to receive SMS alerts for messages from chosen friends, @mentions and direct messages through SMS. O2 users can start receiving twitter alerts on their phone for free from August. The O2 users can also reply to the tweets via SMS (Standard SMS charges would be applicable to these replies).

“We believe that mobile will soon become the most popular way of accessing social networking sites, giving real time access to tweets and status updates wherever you are,” said Antony Douglas, Head of Content at O2. “The agreements we now have in place with Twitter and the other key sites brings this a step closer, making it quick and easy for O2 customers to access their favourite social networks straight from their mobile.”

The Twitter deal adds up to O2’s existing deals with Facebook and Bebo. Now the O2 users can receive free updates through three major social networking websites. The users would have to moderate the service if they receive more than 600 SMS for a month through all the three networks combined.

US security expert wants Nobel Peace Prize for Twitter

July 11th, 2009

twitter-nobel

US security expert and advisor to former president Bush has proposed the honor of Nobel Peace Prize to be given to Twitter. He suggests the Nobel Prize to the San Francisco based micro-blogging social network website for its help in facilitating communications for the election protest in Iran.

“The free social-messaging utility uniquely documented and personalised the story of hope, heroism and horror in Iran”, said Mark Pfeifle, former Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications turned PR consultant.

Mark Pfeifle argues this week on The Christian Science Monitor in his article “A Nobel Peace Prize for Twitter?”. It says that twitter played a crucial role in connecting Iran to the world when the journalist were forced to leave Iran.

“When traditional journalists were forced to leave the country, Twitter became a window for the world to view hope, heroism, and horror. It became the assignment desk, the reporter and the producer. And because of this Twitter and its creators are worthy of being considered for the Nobel Peace Prize.” He says.

But does Twitter really deserve to be awarded the honor when the people who invented the internet never were? Tell us in the comments.

Apple rules social media!

May 31st, 2009

apple-twitter

Apple certainly is the most talked about tech company on the internet. With a unique charisma and a real charm in whatever it does, the Cupertino giant manages to stay in news 24×7x365. An interesting observation (and really surprising to me) at Mashable shows how Apple beats the rest by a huge margin in Social Media conversations.

Consumers talk about their favourite gadgets, the gadgets they own and their dream gadgets. Apple scores with its touch of class in everything it does, right from designing the product to its features / usability. Another shot below shows breakup of Apple products (no doubt – iPhone leads).

If Google takes over Twitter

March 11th, 2009

Rumors are going around that Google might be interested in twitter? Twitter is being considered a competition to Google already! From Movie reviews to tech support – Often I find myself turning to the Twitter community for help rather than a Google query. So what If Google decides to buy out Twitter?

  • The service would become completely free. Even Sms tweeting!
  • Adsense would come in ;) (expected)
  • People will have to transfer their account to Google Accounts and in this process they might lose Followers………….(just like what happened when people migrated from Feedburner to Google)
  • The name would change to Twoogle!

The Mumbai terrorist attacks

November 28th, 2008

Its no news that Mumbai (infact India) is witnessing its worst terrorist attack. The financial capital of the nation where life moves at the speed of light has been brought to a stand still. A silence on the roads that I have never witnessed since 26th July 05 (Yeah the rainy day). Though I have promoted the community factor in fighting crimes; acknowledging  that the govt and police have a tough job in hand (we are a country of 1 Billion remember!), I can only ask hope for a better life in Mumbai.

To all our readers in Mumbai and across the world – Keep up the spirit, Let us pledge to fight against terror.

“We must not bring one war to an end—or thirty—but the idea of war itself.”

“There is no way to peace. Peace is the way.”
