Soon after its launch in October, Nokia had announced that the N8 has received the highest amount of consumer pre-orders” in the company’s history. Back then, the news was treated with suspicion because the phone was launched amidst quite a bit of negative publicity regarding the usability of Symbian^3 and lack of overall competitiveness when compared to platforms like Android and iOS. In addition, there was a considerable delay between the announcement of the device and its eventual launch.
Nokia has also not revealed how many N8’s it has managed to sell so far – nor the sales targets the company had for the first few quarters. Anyway, we now have Finland based research firm Inderes reporting that Nokia may have shipped as many as 4 million N8 units around the world since launch. Their report arrives at a figure that hovers between 3.5 and 4 million units.
While the number is still a far cry from the total number of iPhones sold so far, (14 million in the first quarter), if the 4 million figure is accurate, Nokia didn’t actually do very badly. Another thing that is to be noticed is that the N8 has done particularly well in India, a market where the iPhone hasn’t managed to evoke much interest – the report adds.

4M and still counting? hmm, lets see if this will surprise us.. who knows right?
Good statistics. Worthy of without doubt the best touchscreen phone produced by Nokia. The problem is not just the comparison with iPhone 4 but also Galaxy S sales. But then they have been around in the market for a longer period of time. Let us wait for official confirmation of sales from Nokia.
