Acer Iconia B1 7-inch Tablet Launched

Acer has just announced the launch of a brand new 7-inch budget tablet in India. Christened the “Iconia B1?, the device runs Android 4.1 JellyBean- the latest version of Android and is priced well below the Rs.10 k mark making it a decent option for tablet buyers on the lookout for a budget device.
Priced at a very affordable Rs. 7,999, the device will challenge similarly spec’d (and priced) tablets from low cost Android tablets manufacturers like Micromax, Zync, Karbonn and the likes.

One of the cheapest tablets on sale in India, the Iconia B1 was also showed off at the CES, held recently at Las Vegas.

Let’s now take a quick look at the features that make it to this affordable tablet.

First off, we start with the processor which in this case happens to be clocked at 1.2 Ghz and has twin cores. The processor is ably supported with an adequate 512 MB of RAM. The device packs in 8 GB of internal memory which can be expanded further by using micro SD cards of up to 32 GB in capacity. The 7 inch display has a resolution of 1024*600 pixels and is capacitive in nature. Connectivity options include Wifi, USB and Bluetooth 4.0. The 2710 mAH battery tucked inside the device might be a tad underwhelming for a tablet – but we would reserve a judgement on the battery life only after we get to use a review unit. At 320 grams, the B1 is quite pocketable as well.

The Iconia Tab B1 has been clearly positioned as a weapon against the flood of low cost tablet launches India has been witnessing over the past few months. How successful this attempt from Acer turns out to be would be revealed in the months to come.
