Acer just gave India its first Honeycomb tablet. The Iconia tab A500 that is powered by NVIDIA Tegra 2 and sports a 10.1″ screen (1280×800). With 16GB of internal memory, microSD expansion and HDMI out, this is pretty much a full featured tablet. But along with this, Acer also packs in a 5MP rear camera, a 2MP front camera, 1GB of RAM and all the sensors that you want (Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass). It even supports LTE if you care. But the version coming to India currently is WiFi Only (3G version expected in June)
The Iconia is one of the cheapest tablets around in International market with a price tag of $449 (yes thats a steal) and this would come down to India for Rs 27,990 (16GB WiFi only). Unless some thing like the Asus Eee Pad or the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 shows up to spoil the part, this is the thing tablet buyers would would jump upon (Yes the iPad 2 is here as well). But Iconia tab is not the only thing Acer has up its sleeves today. They have revealed the entire Iconia range with 5 tablet devices (or lets say 3 tablets, 1 super smartphone and 1 notebook).
Acer is also unveiling a unique notebook that we had first seen at CES 2011. The Iconia notebook is powered by Intel’s 2nd gen Core processor and runs Windows 7 with a Dual-touchscreen design. The Iconia notebook features two 14″ touchscreens that gives a unique interface for users to work. The keyboard shows up on the touchscreen using a 10 finger gesture, else the entire 14″ x 2 real estate is open for users and developers to play with. We have heard horror stories of its battery life, but for now we know that this is coming to India for Rs 69,999 (the US pricing when we last checked pre-order was $1199).
Another product rolling out is the W500 Windows 7 tablet. This is again a 10.1″ capacitive touchscreen that runs Windows 7 on an AMD chip. With 32GB of integrated memory and plenty of connectivity options (ranging from USB to HDMI), this is probably the only respectable Win 7 tablet out in the market. We would come back with our impressions of the same, but for now you should know that this one is costing Rs 32499.
The Acer A500, Iconia dual-screen notebook and the W500 are for immediate sale in India. In coming weeks you would see it on sale with retailers across the country. Acer also gave us a sneak peek of a couple of other Iconia tablets coming up in June. The Acer A300 smartphone / tablet hybrid and the Acer A100 7″ tablet.
The Iconia Smart A300 is a 4.8″ gingerbread powered device with Qualcomm 1GHz processor, Dolby sound and 8MP camera with video capabilities. This comes with some UI customizations from Acer, while the A100 is a 7″ tablet that runs Honeycomb (Android 3.0). Stay tuned while we are done processing the demo videos!
Update: Our quick impressions and video of Acer Iconia A300 is live.
