We saw Asus announcing some impressive smartphones at this year’s CES. And Asus has now launched the Asus Fonepad 8 tablet in India. The Asus Fonepad 8 was first launched at the Computex 2014 expo but only for selected markets. The Fonepad 8 (FE380CG) features a new design which is lighter and slimmer than its predecessors and also providing the users with larger viewing area on the screen. The device is intended to provide the best of both the worlds by giving an 8-inch touchscreen display and voice calling support. Fonepad 8 is a dual-SIM supporting device. Screen size is an 8-inch IPS display with resolution of 1280*800 pixels. It features a 1.3GHz quad core Intel Atom Z3530 processor. The processor is coupled with 2GB of RAM. Asus Fonepad 8 offers an internal storage capacity of 16GB. Memory capacity of the device can be extended up to 64GB using a microSD card. Fonepad 8 runs on Android KitKat 4.4 with Zen UI running on top of it.
The tablet features a 5MP rear snapper but without a LED flash and the secondary snapper reading out as 2MP. Connectivity features include WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, micro-USB and GPS. But the noticeable connectivity feature is the 3G support offered by Fonepad 8. It also has dual front speakers tuned with MaxxAudio to provide a better multimedia experience. Asus Fonepad 8 is powered up with a 4000mAh battery, which is claimed to provide 12 hours of device life while browsing the net or watching videos and 21 hours of talk time.
Being 8.9mm thin and weighing only 310gm, Fonepad 8 is designed to impress when compared with other similar tablets. Asus touts about the Fonepad 8 to sport the world’s narrowest bezel on an 8-inch tablet. This has resulted in a large viewing area reading as 72.2% screen-to-body ratio. For now, Asus Fonepad 8 is only available in Black and Gold colours at ASUS exclusive stores and Flipkart for INR 13,999. With a 64-bit processor, the device could have showcased with Android Lollipop. But overall, Asus Fonepad 8, with its improved features like narrow bezel, front facing speakers and voice calling support, looks impressive.
