The media wires have been buzzing about the arrival of the Motorola BackFlip in India for a while now. While most people have been talking about the specs (bemoaning the fact that the device runs on Android 1.5) and the price, what we think is worthy of attention is what lies behind the phone. It is one of the most innovative ways to navigate a touchscreen – what Moto calls the Backtrack. It is simply a trackpad located behind the touchscreen, which allows the user to navigate on the screen without touching it. So you could actually browse the Web or flick through a book by just running your finger across this trackpad on the back on the screen, leaving the screen free of your fingerprints or your fingers. The result: a much better viewing experience and of course, less wear and tear of the screen and any protector on it (those things cost a lot).
Now, this is something we wish other touchscreen manufacturers would imitate. It may not work for onscreen typing, but for general touchscreen navigation, it works a charm.
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE, THE ANDROID CANNOT BE UPGRADED. DO NOT BELIEVE EVEN IF TH DEALER TELLS YOU THAT IT COULD BE UPGRADED. IT HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY ANNOUNDED THAT THIS DEVICE WILL NOT HAVE ANY MORE UPGRADE OF ANDROID. ALSO THIS PHONE MANY MAJOR ISSUES RIGHT FROM DROPPING CALLS TO VERY BAD BLUETOOOTH CONNECTIVITY.
Hmm…well, we have never had any problems with the calls or Bluetooth. And yes, it is unlikely to get upgraded further but heck, we still love the Backtrack and if you are looking for just a social networking device, this one still is not too bad. But yes, Android lovers would have preferred Moto to have upgraded it to at least 2.1!
