Quick Hands-on With The DELL XPS 15z @ GizmoMeet

Dell XPS 15z Review

The DELL XPS 15z got its first official outing at our GizmoMeet last week and we had our chance to play with it. Earlier leaked as Adamo’s successor, the 15z went official recently and its launching in India this week. The 15z is yet another beautifully designed notebook from DELL and is powered by Intel’s 2nd gen Core processors (Sandy Bridge). At 0.97″ thickness the XPS 15z is promoted as the thinnest 15″ PC on the planet (the MacBook Pro 15″ is at 0.95 though).

The finishing of the aluminium chassis is real smooth and gives the XPS 15z a classy look. It feels good when you hold the laptop. The backlit keyboard really looks beautiful and is really comfortable to type.  The placement of the speakers seems optimal. The surface of the laptop is durable smooth and dirt resistant as well. Overall the laptop looks very attractive.

DELL has its own software customizations on the 15z and also supports multitouch trackpad gestures like pinch to zoom. Given the smart switcher that NVIDIA chip brings in, the 15z switches between Intel integrated graphics  and NVIDIA GPU to deliver the claimed 8.5 hours battery backup.

Here is a video tour of the XPS 15z by Mr Sriram (Brand Manager – XPS & Alienware, Consumer and SMB, Dell India).
