HTC is holding an event in Mumbai tomorrow, and while the invite reads a new product (in association with Tata DoCoMo), we have learnt that HTC would actual unveil the ChaCha tomorrow. HTC already has the Salsa retailing in India, and its second Facebook phone, ChaCha now reaches the Indian shores.
HTC ChaCha is a QWERTY phone with a dedicated Facebook button. ChaCha is powered by Android OS and given its form factor, gives competition to Samsung Galaxy Pro and Motorola Charm. ChaCha features a 2.6″ touchscreen (480×320), 5MP camera and a 800Mhz processor. However, the selling point remains the Facebook integration which lets a user share photos, music etc using a dedicated F button.
Surprisingly you would have noticed that none of the ecommerce sites have started to sell ChaCha in India before its official release, perhaps a result of repeated incidents when we spotted HTC products selling in retail stores before the company announced it. Either ways, we are yet to receive a word on the pricing, and we wonder what would be the Tata DoCoMo angle here. Stay tuned.
Update: BGR India adds, the price is expected to be around Rs 16,000. Tata Docomo would bundle a 3GB data over 3 months (not sure if it;s 3G) and a free three hour package of their mobile TV service.
Update: 20/7/2011
It’s now official… Yes just like we had told you yesterday, HTC indeed did launch the ChaCha (Chacha is a term for a Latin dance form). The proceedings for the day were started by Mr. Lennard Hoornik, President South Asia, HTC Corp who shared with us some fascinating stats about social networking and Facebook which led to the birth of Salsa and the ChaCha
HTC had Riya Sen as the brand ambassador for ChaCha,who according to them fits the brand image as the (Ahem) social youth icon.
Well priced at Rs. 15,000 its another offering after the HTC Salsa which banks on the popularity of Facebook by enabling easy sharing of multimedia at the click of a (Facebook) button. And yes the ChaCha has 3 months of free 3G data usage of 3GB along with 300 mins of talk time on 3G.
