All right, we know what you are going to say – “Why would anyone go all the way and unbox a videogame when all the thrill is actually in slipping it into a console and playing it?” Well, our rationale is easy – this is a special edition of a special game, none other than Fable 3, from the famous Peter Molyneux. Yes, we know the game was launched late last year, but we just got our hands on the Limited Collector’s Edition, which has some extra goodies apart from the game itself and comes in a package to die for. If you do not believe us, take a look for yourselves.

We Told it looked different. Yes, that is the package as seen from the side, and that is real leather with gold lettering. Classy, hey?

The front of The front of the package is more routine, unless you notice that it seems a bit on the thicker side. And of course, there is another flash of leather – the button-on strap. Incidentally, the cover you see is removable. And we are going to take it off!
Take off the paper cover and what you see is something that looks right out of a medieval library – proper leather binding and check the flecked “gold pages” effect of the packaging on the side.
Opening the top flap after undoing the strap reveals the Game DVD. Hang on, there is more. And you do not have to remove the DVD to see it.
There is a hidden compartment in the lower part of the case. Just pull it out and you have some extra goodies, such as a whole deck of Fable 3 playing cards and what appears like a metal disc. Now, how’s that?
The disc is in fact a double-sided Guild Seal coin. If you notice, the seal is extraordinarily similar to that seen on the “cover” of the booklike packaging. And this is a pretty solid coin – it is heavy!
The goodies in the secret compartment laid out – the Guild Coin (which has the seal in blue on one side and red the other), and the playing cards specially designed by Lionhead – inside the package, which is incidentally inlaid with red cloth. We will say it again – classy!
After all that, the game disk itself seems a bit underwhelming. Still we opened and saw the game disk and the manual and flyers for Bonus Game Content. We do not mean to be disrespectful, but ahem, yawn! Could they not have thrown in an additional disk of music or particular episodes? Oh well!
There you have the entire Fable Limited Collector’s Edition in a snap – the playing cards, the Guild Coin, the game itself and the utterly fantastic packaging. Is it worth the extra bucks, you ask us? Well, if you are a Molyneux fan (and we are), the answer is Yes. We have never seen a more elegantly packaged special edition of a game. Other tech manufacturers – and not just publishers – could learn a thing or two from this. We certainly hope they do.
