No More Android Version Updates For Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Range

In yet another disappointing move by Sony Ericsson, the company has in a tweet, clarified its stand on the future of the Xperia x10 line up. There would be no future updates to the phones that would endow them with newer Android versions. Currently, all Xperia X10 handsets run Android 2.1. What’s however, more funnier is the tweet which Sony Ericsson sent to announce the news.

Apparently, according to Sony Ericsson, “The features included in the Android 2.1 phone are on par with, and in many cases better than, a vanilla installation of 2.2”.

That’s some revelation.

Anyway, with the company already having announced the Xperia Arc (which runs Android 2.3) looks like Sony Ericsson engineers are now turning their attention to newer devices.

That said, Sony Ericsson has confirmed that generic updates (feature additions and non OS related updates) like the addition of multitouch would continue to be issued for the Xperia X10 range. We wonder if that would serve as some sort of consolation for all of you who had been looking forward for an OS update?

  • Thats very disappointing. Well its good to focus more on the new devices, but there should be something in place to upgrade the OS on older devices.

    Thanks for sharing.
