FarmVille creator Zynga to go urban with CityVille

After redefining social networking gaming with the simple yet amazingly successful FarmVille and FrontierVille, game developers Zynga are on the verge of releasing another game with similar gameplay. Only this time it will be based in urban climes and will be called – no prizes for guessing – CityVille. Sean Kelly, GM, CityVille described the game as “where Monopoly meets Main Street,” hailing it as “our most social game game to date.”

Those addicted to FarmVille and Frontierille can expect to see lots of familiar things. Kelly says that the game builds on the “best-of-breed gameplay that Zynga fine-tuned with FarmVille and FrontierVille,” and goes on to spell it out: “Instead of harvesting crops you’re harvesting your neighborhood, instead of clearing your friend’s frontier you’re working on a friend’s franchise. We hope players from around the world have as much fun playing CityVille as we had building it.”

Players will have to build cities, using resources with alternative uses. Decisions will have to be made about businesses, buildings and a whole lot of other issues. And all this will be in 3D – yes, CityVille is Zynga’s first 3D rendered buildings and characters. And of course, there is the social touch – you can visit your friend’s city, help them out a bit and even open a business in their city. Honestly, it sounds like a very simplified version of Sim City which we do not think is a bad idea. It is likely to be released in the coming days and will be available in English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish on Facebook at CityVille.com.
