Finally, Quadrocopters Controlled By Hand Motion via Kinect

Seems like the Kinect SDK released by Microsoft  are finally realizing its potential. The Flying Machine Arena researchers have finally managed to get the Quadrocopters work on Kinect controlled motion sensors after playing with them for a while.

These four rotored machines can now be controlled via motions of the hand. And guess what they can make to do some acrobatic flips as well by just moving your left hand. You can make the copter land by just clapping your hands. What happens if you do no motions at all? Well the copter will just hover in the air at the same place waiting for your next instruction. Now, considering that it might be dangerous for amateurs to operate the copter and to avoid any accidents you can also allot a No Fly zone around the controller to ensure his safety.

Though the technology for controlling the quadrocopter is a little complicated and requires overhead cameras to be put on the roof wall which measures the vectors from the users head to his right hand. The technology implied here makes the motion control fairly accurate. Mind you, you have to be very careful though as you these copters are very obedient and will take orders from your hand gestures even when you don’t intend to do so.
