Five Best Football Games in Town!

With the World Cup in full swing, there is no time like the present to take a look at the best football games in video gametown. There are games of just about every sort and on every platform, ranging from Flash-driven online penalty save games to full-fledged affairs covering national leagues of countries that one does not really associate with the beautiful game. After much debate and discussion, we settled on a final list of five for those who would love to have a kick in the grass on their gaming devices.

  1. FIFA World Cup South Africa (PS3, Xbox 360, iPhone, Wii, PSP) : Very much the videogame for all those crazy about the tournament, with official players, teams and qualifying rounds and cross-platform availability. Yes, it would not have made the list but for the fact that the World Cup is underway, but then it is, isn’t it!
  2. Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 (PS3): It may not have all the licences of teams and tournaments, and even the once sleek graphics have started looking a tad jaded, but we still think it is the game to play for those who want a great experience on the console, especially if you have a high-definition display and  a PS3. The PS2 version is pretty good too.
  3. FIFA 10 (Xbox 360): If it is official licences and likenesses you crave, then this is perhaps the best footy game for you. And FIFA 10 has also done away with some of the horribly clunky controls, making this one of the most comprehensive football games on any console, although we think it is best on the Xbox 360. Do not play it on the PC unless you have multiple thumbs!
  4. X2 Football 2010 (iPhone): The best mobile football game with terrific graphics and easy controls that are not plastered all over the screen. Who says football videogaming is all Konami and EA?
  5. Championship Manager 2010 (PC): The PC ain’t the best platform for action football games but if its strategy, tactics and formations that you love tinkering around, then head to the PC and try out this title for one of the best sports strategy experiences around. Now, if they only had included an option to hop around the touchline like a demented dervish, Maradona style!
