Until now, if you wanted to use location bases services like Foursquare, the basic requirement was to be in possession of a smartphone with an official app or a supporting client app installed. A vast majority of people who use simple feature phones however had no such option. That has changed today with Nokia’s Series 40 getting itself a new version of Foursquare – thanks to folks over at Nokia Beta Labs.
The new application tailormade for S40 devices is based on Java and will work on devices that have an inbuilt GPS chip.
The application gets all the standard features seen on Foursquare. This includes
- Shout
- Check in
- Venueless check in (“check in here anyway”)
- Search places
- Add place
- Recent checkins from friends
- User info
- Manage friend requests
The application is conformed to work on the following S40 devices. Nokia 5310, 6600 Fold, 7230, C3-00, C3-01 and the X3-02. Of course this should work fine on most other self-respecting S40 devices as well.
