Dual SIM Android handsets are as rare as hair on chickens teeth – but looking at the way things are developing, we would be seeing quite a few dual SIM Android laden phones in the near future. Gigabyte, the Taiwanese major is planning to launch its first Dual SIM Android handset soon.
Called the GSmart Rola, the device would be a basic, entry level handset featuring a 3.2 inch WQVGA resistive touchscreen couple with a basic 528 Mhz processor.
The good news is that it would run Android 2.2 and would come with 256 MB of RAM and 512 MB ROM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. It also gets a 3.2MP camera. While the phone supports 3G networks, it’s still unclear if both the SIM card slots support 3G networks. Also, we still don’t know if both SIM’s could remain active simultaneously.
The Gsmart Rola is expected to make its landfall in “select markets” sometime in the first quarter of 2011. The price is expected to hover at around the €175 mark. We for sure know that there is a market ?(a huge one) for dual SIM smartphones here in India. Let’s see if Gigabyte is smart enough to launch this one here and price it sensibly.
