On the second day of the Google I/O Conference, we turn our attention to Google Chrome, the browser that they debuted back in late 2008. Since its debut almost three years ago, it has come a long way. While it is yet to rake up sizable market share compared to its competitors, it’s certainly on the way up. Anyway, it goes without saying that Google Chrome has managed to create a set of faithful users- including yours truly. Google Chrome has managed to increase its user base from 70 million users at last year’s Google I/O to 160 million now. The numbers increased mainly due to the arrival of the Mac version of Chrome.
Google is promising a host of updates to the browser in the future. Promised features include support for speech built in. On the developer front, Google promises new API’s as well. Another major introduction would be the arrival of Angry Birds, the popular game as an app for the browser! Peter Vesterbacka from Rovio was on stage and revealed that the web version if the game would run at 60 frames per second on most modern computers and that it would be available “offline” thanks to the brilliant caching and local storage features integrated on to Chrome. If that wasn’t all, Angry Birds for Chrome would get exclusive, Chrome specific levels as well. Anyway, if you cant wait to play Angry Birds on Chrome, head here to take a look!
Google also revealed that since the arrival of the Chrome Web Store more than 17 million applications have been obtained from its Chrome Web Store. The Web Store would now be made evn more accessible and would be available in 41 languages soon.
Google continues to hold on to its claim of the Chrome being the fastest browser on the planet and in the future too, thanks to a barrage of tweaks and updates it is planned to get, it is likely to hold on to that claim. Does the Firefox 4 fanboy in you agree?
