You know what India’s gravest security risk is as of today? No, it’s not coming from our borders. It’s up there in the skies. After the earths recent tryst with a wayward asteroid which passed by the earth a few days ago, scientists from UK’s Southampton University have released data regarding what they think would be the worst countries to be affected in case an asteroid hits the earth today.
And it’s not good news for us Indians. According to them, India would be one of the worst hit along with China and Indonesia in case of an asteroid strike. These countries will face “massive” loss of life in such large numbers that it would be almost impossible for them to recover from the catastrophe even decades after the event.
If it’s for any solace, there are lots of developed countries in this list too – including the US which will face massive destruction to life as well as infrastructure. Even Sweden made it to the list even though the country is not that populated. It will face massive infrastructural loss the report says. The countries worst affected would of course be the ones that would be the most populated. Hence countries like China, India, Indonesia, Japan and the US are the “most” in danger.
The countries most at risk as compiled by the scientists are: China, Indonesia, India, Japan, US, The Philippines, Italy, Britain, Brazil and Nigeria. This sickening data has been complied using software called NEOImpacter which is a part of NASA’s Near Earth Object program.
Looks like instead of spending a considerable amount of money on our defense budget, we might as well take steps to increase our “space” security.
Aree tension naka, Jadoo hai na 😛
