Intel’s Xolo X 500 Announced For India

Lava, the famed maker of the first commercial Intel processor powered smartphone has announced that it would soon start selling yet another Xolo branded, Intel powered handset in the country. The new handset that will soon be launched in India happens to be the Lava Xolo X500.
Contrary to the expectation that Intel would follow up the Xolo X900 with an upgrade, this handset is definitely a downgrade. But then, this is not a successor to the X900 anyway.

The X500 will be powered by the Intel “Lexington” Atom Z2420 processor that was recently announced at the 2013 CES. Unlike the X900 though, this one sports dual SIM capability which would be much appreciated by the Indian crowd.

The device would sport a 3.5 inch, 480*320 pixel display and would run Android 4.0 ICS on launch. The phone gets 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of on board memory which unlike the Xolo X900 can be expanded further using micro SD cards. Powering the device is a 1,500mAh battery which seems adequate for a phone of its class.

The Intel Z2420 processor gets Intel’s Hyper-Threading technology in which a singe core can execute two threads and has a clock speed of 1.2GHz. There is a dedicated GPU as well that can process and full HD 1080p videos. The device also gets a 5 megapixel camera.

The Xolo X 500 is interestingly seems to be the same handset that goes by the name of the Intel Yolo (yeah that wasn’t a typo) that was announced for the Kenyan market yesterday.
