Looks like Indian manufacturers are on an overdrive these days to bring phones with outrageous features, which are simply ahead of their times. The trend seems to have been started off by Spice mobiles with their 12 megapixel cameraphone with optical zoom. It was followed soon by its 3D capable phone. Now, Intex seems to be following suit by announcing their and probably India’s first phone with a built in projector. The V.Show IN 8810, as the phone is officially known, is capable of projecting images equivalent to the size of a 36-inch display on a wall. While this certainly is not a worlds first with Samsung already having the Beam GT-i8520 boasting of an in built pico-projector, this sure is a first for any Indian manufacturer. The Beam however is a smartphone based on Android, and will set you back by a cool Rs.38,000. Compared to this, the IN 8810 costs just a quarter of that at just Rs. 12,000. You will of course would need to give up on the luxury of using Android and an overall better experience. But then this might just be the cheapest way to get yourself a projector as of now.
The IN 8810 boasts of 3 hours of projection time. That is good enough to power the device through a complete Hindi movie. Of course, we will verify this claim once we get one of these devices for a review hopefully. The LED lamp used on the projector lamp is rated for 20,000 hours.
As for the “phony” features of the device, let us remind you that this device also happens to be a GSM+GSM dual SIM handset. The 64MB of internal memory is augmented by not one, but two memory card slots that can take in two 8GB microSD cards each. The phone also gets dual camera’s. We wonder if the second one would be used for video calling – now a reality in India with 3G getting more widespread.
So, would you be getting one of these for your small time projection needs?
