Is Google Launching a New Tablet in First Half of 2012?

Has Google’s Executive Chairman, Eric Schmidt mistakenly let the cat out of the bag? While talking to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera on the occasion of the opening of Google’s new office, during the course of the interview Schmidt said that Google plans to market a tablet of the highest quality in the next six months.

This statement by Schmidt is being understood in the tech circles by expert as an indication that Google might be working on their own tablet which could remarkably well be in association with Motorola with the Ice Cream Sandwich version installed in it.

With the rumors of a Nexus tablet doing the rounds since March this year, the news could exceptionally well be true. Though, it is also highly likely that Schmidt just meant to say that Google would be marketing new Android tablets in the market with ICS installed in them.

During, the course of the interview Eric Schmidt also showered praise on the late Steve Jobs calling him “the Michelangelo of our times” who had the vision to understand that tablets would play an extremely prominent role in revolutionizing the world today.

If a tablet is launched by Google, one thing is for sure that the new Android tablet will not sport Honeycomb, which wasn’t really well received in the market by the Android fans and resulted in very poor sales. Also, it would be immensely attractive to see at what price point the Android tablets are released in the market considering the fact that the Kindle Fire has done so well at the price point of a mere $199.
