London plans citywide WiFi by 2012 Olympics

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has shared his vision for what he sees the city to be before Olympics 2012. He has announced that the city council plans to install WiFi hotspots on every lamp post and bus stop. He also announced a new project named “Wireless London” which aims to make the city a technological center of the world. This definitely is a great time to start up the new project and make London a wireless city.

At the moment, there is no news regarding the WiFi connection speeds and the cost involved for using it. 22 Boroughs of Greater London have already signed up and are now a part of this great project. The London Council is planning to make Swindon the first wirless Borough and they plan to do this by using a borough-wide WiFi wireless mesh. Sounds cool, doesn’t it?

I strongly believe that this idea should be taken into consideration by most other rapidly developing countries like India to keep up with the latest technological developments.
