Micromax which is known to release a new phone almost every other day has brought out the Canvas Pep today. The device is priced at an affordable Rs. 5,999. The phone has a 4.5 inch display with the resolution of 854×480 pixels. It is powered by a 1.3GHz, Quad Core processor and comes with 1GB RAM. The rear camera has a 5 Megapixel sensor with a LED flash and it also has a 0.3 Megapixel camera on the front, which we doubt will click good selfies. The phone is powered by a 1700 mAh battery.
Micromax is surely bringing down the prices of their phones and this maybe due to the stiff competition from local and international brands. The Yu Yureka which they launched under the Yu brand is doing extremely well. Approximately 15000 units of the device gets sold out in the sale that is held every Thursday on Amazon.
Reports suggested that Micromax have taken over Samsung as the number one mobile brand in India but Samsung has rubbished it saying that they still hold the numero uno position in the country. Having said that, among most Indian brands, Micromax has been doing extremely well and does have a huge market share. This month they also introduced the Joy variant of phones which starts at a cost of Rs. 699 and will be packed in a candy pouch.
Micromax has stated that they would give the Android Lollipop (5.0) update to all the phones in the Canvas variant. So users buying the Pep can expect the update but it is unknown as to how soon will it be rolled out. It’ s good that many local players are taking Android system updates seriously as even Intex shipped the Aqua Star L with Lollipop, making it the first Indian smartphone maker to do so.
