Analyzing Why Samsung Drops Prices Of Galaxy E5 & E7 Within A Month Of Launch

The Samsung Galaxy E5 and E7 were released last month along with the Galaxy A series. It seems that just a month after the launch, Samsung has dropped the price of both the phones. The E5 which was earlier available for Rs. 19,300 is now available for Rs. 17,900 whereas the E7 is now available for Rs. 20,900 against the launch price of Rs. 23,000.

While, the reason for the price drop is still unclear, it may have something to do with the tough competition given by Indian and Chinese manufacturers to Samsung. Also, the phones seemed to be overpriced at the time of launch, with other phones from Xiaomi and Micromax offering the same specs at a lower price range. Another reason may be the lukewarm response the phones have gotten so far in the Indian market. The less than satisfactory response can be gauged just by looking at the amount of reviews the phones have got since their launch.

Samsung Galaxy E5 and Samsung Galaxy E7

To recall, the Samsung Galaxy E5 packs a 5-inch HD Super AMOLED display, 1.2GHz quad-core CPU backed up by 1.5GB of RAM. It has 16GB of expandable internal storage, an 8 MP rear camera, a 5 MP front camera, and a 2,400 mAh battery. The Galaxy E7 has a larger display (5.5-inch) of the same Super AMOLED qulaity, same processor and 2GB of RAM. It packs a 13 MP rear camera, 5 MP front camera and a 2,950 mAh battery. Both devices run Android 4.4 KitKat and come with dual SIM slots, though using two SIM cards means foregoing expandable storage as one slot also doubles up as a microSD slot.

The price cut is now being reflected on all the e-commerce sites with Amazon India being the first to make the phones available at the new price. We sense something brewing between Amazon and Samsung as the newly launched Samsung Galaxy J1 is also exclusively available on Amazon. In addition to the Samsung Galaxy E5 and E7, the much popular Samsung Galaxy S4 has also undergone a heavy price cut in India. The Galaxy S4 can now be purchased at Rs. 17,999 only at Amazon. At the time of writing, there was a huge difference between the Amazon and Flipkart pricing of S4 as Flipkart is offering the phone at Rs. 45,000 which is almost three times the Amazon price.
