The 4G variant of the Moto E 2nd Gen is up for pre-order on Flipkart today. The phone is priced at Rs. 7,999 and its estimated release date is 23rd April, 2015. Flipkart is also bundling a lot of offers with the phone. The phone has a 4.5 inch screen with the resolution of 960×540 pixels. This gives an average pixel density of 245PPI. It runs on a 12.GHz Snapdragon 410 processor and is packed with 1GB of RAM.
The phone comes with 8GB of internal storage but has a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 32GB. The rear camera has a 5 Megapixel sensor but lacks a LED flash. While the first gen Moto E lacked a front camera, this one has a VGA camera on the front. The device is powered by a 2390 mAh lithium-ion battery which is non-removable. The device is shipped with Android Lollipop (5.0) which is a good thing. Motorola anyways is known to give software updates to most of their devices. They have pushed out the Lollipop update for the 1st and 2nd Gen Moto G and also the second Gen Moto X. If you compare the 3G version of the new Moto E to this one, then this has a better processor. The 3G version runs on a Snapdragon 200 chip and costs Rs. 6,999.
On paper, the Moto E 2nd Gen seems a bit outdated. Motorola was once known to provide the best value for money devices but now its competitors have caught up with them. And with the competition we mean that from international brands and not just local Indian players. The Lenovo A6000 and the Xiaomi Redmi 2 are both 4G enabled devices and cost as much as the Moto E 2nd Gen 4G variant but boasts of better specifications. So will this phone be as successful as its predecessor is remained to be seen.
