Motorola seems to be in Android phone overdrive. After launching the Quench and the FlipOut in the past few weeks, it today released the Charm in the Indian market. In terms of features, this has got to be one of the most loaded devices we have seen in the sub-Rs 15,000 smartphone segment. It has got a 2.8 inch touchscreen, a full QWERTY keypad, all the connectivity options you could ask for (3G, Wi-Fi, GPS…you name it), a 3 MP camera, support for corporate mail –, and it also has the BackTrack option that we loved in the BackFlip launched some months ago, letting users navigate on the screen without touching the screen itself.
It looks like a sleek version of a BlackBerry with a touchscreen thrown in for good measure. All this for a price tag of Rs 13,990, and an offer for Aircel users to get 1GB of free downloads for six months for postpaid users and 9GB over three months for prepaid users.
Honestly, this seems to be one of the most compelling value for money offers we have seen for a while, with the only clangers being the 320 x 240 resolution, which is relatively low, and the 3MP camera which does not really stand out in a pricing segment that is seeing a number of 5 megapixel shooters (check the Nokia E5). Still, for those who love social networking and text/mail a lot, this seems a terrific device. More when we have used it.
I am beting on the BackTrack to be a good addon to Motorola’s tablet in 2011. Hope they hack it there aswell.
Oh yes, the really good thing about it is that it makes the size of the touchscreen just a bit less important as you can browse on it without touching the display. For me, BackTrack was one of the innovations of the year.
yo yes … while playing games or doing any activity your own hand doesn’t block the screen real estate. So screen size becomes a lesser important factor. My only concern is the patent issues, no fireworks on mobiles having this (form motorola) but we did see Apple having a similar patent.
Very low screen resolution. So Cant use good features of Android. Galaxy 3 is better for the same. But no QWERTY there.. 🙂 Can u suggest a Android within 15K with QWERTY and Good screen resolution. ?
