We knew Nokia was going to unveil a bunch of new devices at this year’s MWC (Mobile World Congress) but were unsure as to what those devices would be. Well all speculations have come to rest today as Nokia went ahead and announced four new handsets across varied price spectrums. The new devices include two mid-range handsets – the Lumia 720 and the Lumia 520 and two low end handsets – the Nokia 301 and the ultra affordable Nokia 101.
Let’s take a quick look at these handsets now. We start with the Lumia 720.
As evident from its naming scheme, this is Nokia’s newest mid-range entrant in its Windows Phone smartphone lineup. The Lumia 720 gets a 4.3 inch, WVGA display. Powered by Windows Phone 8, the device packs in a Qualcomm MSM8227chipset which houses a processor running at 1 Ghz. The total amount of RAM under the hood is 512 MB. That might sound a tad low when you compare what Android devices of today boast – but then, we have to remember that Windows Phone 8 is a much less resource hungry platform. The phone comes with 8 GB of internal memory and gets a micro SD cards expansion slot.
The Lumia 720 gets a 6.7 megapixel BSI, Auto-Focus camera with Carl Zeiss optics. The camera has a f 1.9 lens that will make it great for low light imaging. Video recording can be done at 720p resolution @ 30 fps. There is also a front camera for video and Skype calling. Like most of its Lumia kinds, this one too supports wireless charging.
Nokia Lumia 520
The Lumia 520 is being touted as the company’s most affordable Windows Phone 8 powered device and boasts of a 4 inch display WVGA display. Under the hood, powering the device is a dual core snapdragon chip running at 1 Ghz. This is supported by 512 MB of RA,. The internal memory is a sufficient 8 GB with support for micro SD cards. There is also 7 Gb worth of free SkyDrive storage.
The 5 megapixel autofocus camera can also take videos in 720p. Connectivity wise too, the device is fully loaded with support for WLAN IEEE802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, Integrated A-GPS, 3.5 mm audio connector, Micro USB with charging and USB 2.0 High Speed. There is a 1430 Mah battery under the hood as well which should keep the handset up and functional for an entire day.
