Wouldn’t you be interested in a device which would let you ditch your smartphones and still enable you with all the features? Isn’t the idea of a smartwatch which can replace a smartphone all together intriguing enough? If yes, Neptune Duo is what you should be looking for. Neptune has announced Neptune Duo – a package of smartwatch and a dummy smartphone. This idea comes as next step to companies diluting their focus from smartphones to concentrate on the trending wearable technology i.e. smartwatches in particular. Neptune is the same company who was behind the humongous Pine smartwatch.
Neptune Duo consists of ‘The Hub’, a smartwatch designed to provide all the functions of a smartphone and a Pocket Screen, basically just a bigger screen version of the Hub. The smartwatch is a device equipped with a curved screen, having a screen size of 2.4-inch and looks like a bulky bracelet. It is equipped with a quad-core processor, 1000mAh battery unit, 3G/4G connectivity, WiFi, GPS and NFC. With all these features, it is meant to be an alternative to your smartphones. Neptune said that Hub is meant to handle all the interactions like read and reply to a message, receive calls and much more.
And only when the users feel that the screen size of the smartwatch, Hub, isn’t enough for some tasks, Pocket Screen comes to rescue. This dummy smartphone doesn’t keep any information stored in. The Pocket Screen has a 5-inch display with resolution of 1280*720 pixels, an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera. This device is also equipped with microphone and speakers. Running on Android 5.0 Lollipop the Pocket Screen has a battery unit of 2800mAh. This looks quite sufficient as this device is designed for scarce use. When in need of this Pocket Screen, the wearable unit will broadcast the display on its screen.
The Neptune Duo is priced at $798, but there are plans by which one can save some amount. This can be done by pledging some amount now and save a percentage of the total while its shipping.
Overall, the concept is still nascent to make judgements at this time. One might feel that the idea is too ambitious but similar predictions were made for Project Ara. Yet this project has scaled to different heights and is all set for a worldwide launch. Neptune Duo address the a genuine problem of users not wanting to take their bulky devices out of their pockets and instead wanting a wearable tech. This gives validity to the concept.
