Nokia stepped out of the mobile race and went on to deliver a netbook last year. The booklet 3G was Nokia’s first netbook and there were promises of more computing devices from Nokia. The rumors of Nokia working with design manufacturers for a Windows 7 tablet comes via analyst Ashok Kumar of Rodman Renshaw. While Unwired View is optimistic about Nokia going for a Windows 7 tablet & I feel this can be very well in making.
The Booklet 3G (as I learnt today) was outsourced by Nokia and it doesn’t look to be a very good time for them to jump into the designing of a new product line themselves, specially when they have an uphill fight back home in the smartphone market. The just announced MeeGo can be an option for Nokia IMO, but given that the Booklet 3G already sells with Windows 7, it isn’t a far stretched assumption that they would like to stick with it for now (after all getting MeeGo in would require more energy from Nokia to build this thing.)
Nokia is perhaps entering the tablet market a little late (not that it was the first mover in the netbook market either) and by the time this thing would hit the markets we would have the HP Slate and may be even some Chrome OS based models out there already. Apple with the iPad has already made a big move and others like Notion Ink are banking on some unique feature set. Whats your trump card, Nokia?
Finally, Someone willing to step up to the ipad and its unglorious self! Will it atleast have flash?
