HMD Global has unveiled the Nokia 2, an entry-level smartphone through a launch event in India today. It is not only the cheapest Nokia Android smartphone but also it is the first phone ever to be driven by Snapdragon 212 chipset. One of the USPs of the Nokia 2 is that it offers 2-day battery life.
Design and Display
Since the Nokia 2 is a low-priced smartphone, it features a polycarbonate rear panel. The 6000-series aluminum frame increases the durability of the phone. And the IP52 rated body of Nokia 2 makes it resistant to water splashes.
The handset will be available in three color choices: Copper Black, Pure Black and White. The smartphone measures 143.5 x 71.3 x 9.3mm.
The Nokia 2 is fitted with a 5-inch LTPS LCD screen that produces an HD resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. It delivers a contrast ratio of 1:1300 and it is protected by a sheet of Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Performance
The Nokia 2 is the first smartphone ever to feature the new Snapdragon 212 that is designed for low-performance smartphones. The Snapdragon 212 SoC includes a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and Adreno 304 graphics. The chipset is supported by 1 GB of RAM. The Nokia 2 is equipped with a 4,100mAh battery. The Finnish firm claims that a single charge can make the phone last for up two days.
The native storage available on the Nokia 2 is 8 GB. Users can add up to 128 GB of microSD on its external storage slot. The smartphone comes pre-installed with near-stock version of Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Apart from the usual Google apps, the phone also includes Google Assistant and unlimited storage on Google Photos. HMD Global has promised that the Android 8.0 Oreo update will be made available to Nokia 2 in future.
Camera and Other Features
There is an 8-megapixel camera equipped with autofocus and LED flash sitting on the back panel of Nokia 2. The front side features a fixed focus 5-megapixel snapper. The Bothie feature that was first introduced on Nokia 8 flagship phone is also available on the entry-level Nokia 2. It allows users to shoot images or videos through front and rear cameras simultaneously.
The Nokia 2 comes with connectivity features like 3.5mm audio jack, LTE, Wi-Fi 802 b/g/n, FM Radio with RDS, v4.1 Bluetooth and GPS. The handset will be available in single SIM and dual SIM versions.
Pricing and Availability
HMD Global did not reveal the pricing of Nokia 2 for India. However, it announced that the smartphone would be globally available with a price tag of 99 euros (~Rs. 7,500). The Nokia 2 will be made available for purchase from mid-November.
