That headline tells a lot about Nokia’s sad state of affairs in the US, doesn’t it? More than a month after the Anna update rolled out to handsets in other parts of the globe, it is only now that the select few who own Nokia smartphones in the US get a taste of the “official” update to Anna.
The update is applicable to most Nokia devices released in late 2010 and early 2011. The list of supported handsets include the N8, C7, C6-01, and the E7. The update would be delivered over the air on supported carriers. For those who prefer doing it on their PC, users can connect their Nokia phones to the Ovi Suite and update it using the “traditional” method.
This rollout of Anna comes at a time when Nokia is almost ready to roll out the next major version of Symbian, a significant upgrade to Anna – known as the Belle. In fact, Nokia is already selling quite a few handsets that run Belle. These handsets are already on sale in Europe and Asia.
Nokia has over the past few years steadily lost its market share in the US owing to intense competition. As of now, Android, iOS and RIM lead the pack in the smartphones sector in the US with Nokia nowhere in sight. The company might be looking to change that when they launch their first Windows Phone powered handsets soon.
