Nokia has announced the launch of two new Series 40 devices with the announcement of the C2-01 and the X2 -01. As mentioned, both are based on Nokia’s mid range Series 40 platform. Lets now see what these phones have in store for you.
We begin with the C2-01. This phone is claimed to be the cheapest 3G handset that Nokia would sell. Other features include a 3.2 megapixel camera, FM radio, Bluetooth, and memory expansion up to 16GB. The phone gets a 2-inch display and would be available in the first quarter of 2011 for around €70 ($95). Note that unlike the C2 -00, this one is NOT a dual SIM handset. That brings me to another issue. Nokia is making it increasingly difficult for consumers to differentiate their phone models with their 00, 01 and 02 suffixes. Don’t you think?
The second handset to be announced is the X2-01 which is the latest addition to the company’s X-Series range. This one boasts of a QWERTY keypad and runs S40 as well. Being from the X-Series family, the device is touted to be a music phone and and gets dedicated music button. The phone also boasts of a 2.4 inch QVGA display. There is a very basic, almost utilitarian VGA camera at the back.
Strangely, unlike its cheaper cousin the X2-01 supports memory expansion (officially) to just 8 GB. The X2 doesn’t support 3G as well. This one is expected to cost $109 when launched in early 2011.
