Expanding its portfolio of affordable handsets and the “Asha” range in India, Nokia India has announced the launch of the Asha 202 in the country. The Asha 202 is a touch and type handset featuring a full-fledged keypad as well as a touch screen display – offering best of both the worlds in an affordable package.
The Asha 202 seems to be targeted at the youth of the country who are on the lookout for an affordable phone loaded with decent and cost effective web browsing, social networking and gaming abilities. In fact, the handset features a couple of games from EA and comes preloaded with chat client Nimbuzz.
The Asha 202 features a 2.4 inch resistive touch screen display with a resolution of 240*320 pixels. Internal memory is just 10 MB for storage which you can increase to 32 GB using micro SD cards. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, USB and EDGE. There is no support for 3G or Wi-Fi as expected from a device of its class. There is a 2 megapixel camera at the rear for decent imaging abilities. It can also record videos at 176*144 pixels at 15 fps. The phone weighs in at just 90 grams and as you might expect, is quite pocketable.
In India, Nokia has tied up with five operators – Aircel, Airtel, Reliance, Tata Docomo and Vodafone and will offer new buyers up to 100 MB of data (each) per month for six months absolutely free. This coupled with Nokia’s new browser which compresses web pages will ensure that users don’t pay a bomb for data charges.
Apart from this, Nokia has also announced a 60-day promotion at its Nokia Store, from where consumers can download a 40 EA game pack worth Rs 4000 for free. The Asha 202 will be available in a horde of colors and has been priced at Rs. 4149 in India.
We would hopefully be reviewing this handset in the next few weeks. So watch this space!
