Symbian might be down and out when it comes to its overall market share which has been on a free fall ever since the arrival of iOS and Android. However, Nokia which had outsourced the development of Symbian to Accenture, seems to be doing a good job at churning out updates for devices which are still on the platform. This has surely helped millions of Symbian users who are yet to make their move to either Android or iOS until now.
In yet another such update, Nokia has demoed a fresh new update for its flagship imaging handset, the 808 PureView. The update, was incidentally made available by Nokia for a brief period of time – but was pulled in a few hours. Anyway, people were however able to download the update to check what new features were added to it and here’s what we found out.
To start with, the FP2 (Feature Pck 2) update is a major one with the look and feel of the UI on the PureView undergoing a marked change. Rather than going in to the details, it would be easier to post the official change log here.
- Swipe to Unlock shade effect for lockscreen.
- Swiping on message notifications opens up Messaging.
- Staggered keyboard layout with word predictions presented in real time.
- New version of Web Browser, (v8.3.2.21)
- New email widget.
- Music player UI updated
- Extensive use of transparent toolbars on the UI.
- Universal Search from home page
- Nokia Car Mode built in (in some regions?)
- The Symbian^3 Video editor now included
We will take a detailed look at the same when the firmware is released finally and we get it on the review unit of the 808 currently with us.
