Yes the headline surprises us as well. Apparently, Nokia has recently conducted an online poll on their official blog in which they asked their users to list the most preferred mode of input method on a smart phone. Well, no prizes for guessing the result here.
Here are the surprising results of the online poll. Almost half of the respondents at 48.64% said that they would like to use the QWERTY method of input, whereas 34.69% voted for Touchscreens, 8.91% for number keypads and 7.75% voted for voice commands.
On a region basis most of the votes for QWERTY input method came from Nokia fans in Finland, Germany, UK, Sweden and Philippines. Though the results in one of the largest smartphone market i.e. US was different, wherein almost 40% users voted in favor of touchscreen as opposed to the 30% who voted for QWERTY input. US is one of the markets where Nokia is badly struggling and has lost most of its market share as compared to other markets in the world.
Though, at the end of the day remember these are stats only for the Nokia users. We are sure things would be much different with the other manufacturers. While there is no denying the fact that there still exists a considerable enough market or QWERTY keyboard, touch screens are the future of smartphones. And yes, there is always the option of manufacturing handsets with both QWERTY keyboard and touch screens giving you the best of both worlds.
