After a bunch of leaked images, it was time Nokia took covers off its newest from its Lumia line -up. The venue was Abu Dhabi where Nokia had invited bloggers from around the globe for its first ever Nokia World summit in the Middle East. The newest additions to the Lumia family happens to be the Lumia 1520 and its more affordable younger brother – the Lumia 1320. Lets dive quickly into the spec sheet and other details of the Lumia 1520 with this post.
Display and Processor
The Lumia 1520 is the large screened phablet that we have been hearing about since the past few months – earlier codenamed “The Bandit”. Featuring a full HD, 6 inch Clear Black Display, the 1520 replaces the Lumia 625 as its largest screened device running Windows Phone. The phablet also gets a Gorilla Glass 2 coating for added screen durability – not surprising for a Nokia. Under the hood, this phablet is no slouch either. Featuring the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, this device is as fast as it can get by today’s mobile processing standards. This SoC features a processor running at a dizzying 2.2 Ghz and also gets advanced power saving options. There is 2 Gb of RAM which seems adequate for the not so resource hungry Windows Phone 8 platform.
Optics and Storage
The Lumia 1520 is large. This also meant that they could fit in a 20 megapixel camera sensor to the back of the device. While not attempting to compete with its camera flagship, the Lumia 1020, this one features ZEISS optics, optical image stabilization, 2x lossless zoom and dual LED flash. Video recording can of course be done in full HD at 30 fps. There is a front camera as well which is rated for taking 1.2 megapixel snapshots. There are as many as four microphones on the device that assist you with rich recording capabilities. On board storage capacity is 32 GB- and you also get 7 GB worth of SkyDrive space. If that was not all, microSD cards of up to 64 GB are officially supported. Neat!
Connectivity
The 1520 gets loads of connectivity options – including NFC, A-GPS+GLONASS, WLAN (2.4/5Ghz) a/b/g/n/ac, USB, and BT 4.0 LE. On board sensors include an accelerometer, Proximity sensor, Magnetometer, Gyroscope and of course, an ambient Light Sensor. Apart from supporting almost all GSM and 3G bands, the phablet also supports 4G LTE.
Powering this hardware is a 3400 mAH integrated battery that thanks to Windows Phone’s legendary battery friendliness and the power saving abilities of the Snapdragon chip inside, should last you an entire day of nominal usage.
Availability
Nokia has confirmed that the Lumia 1520 will begin shipping this quarter starting off with Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States, China and Europe (including Finland, France, Germany, and the UK) as its initial markets. There is no India on the list as you can see. The estimated price is set at USD 749 minus taxes and subsidies – which translates to around Rs.45,000 – WITHOUT taxes. This no doubt is gonna be one expensive device!
So, how many of you are considering waiting for this one to arrive? Or maybe you want to check out the equally big – but more affordable Lumia 1320?
