Just weeks after they made their international debuts, Nokia has decided to launch its Windows Phone powered devices from the Lumia range the Lumia 800 and the Lumia 710 here in India. At a launch event held at Delhi yesterday, the phones were announced for India.
Nokia has confirmed that both the devices will be available in select retail stores across key cities and towns by mid-December. Before the launch, both devices will be available for pre-order starting early December.
Both the phones are the first of the many Windows Phone launches that are expected from Nokia in the coming months and in India, come with India specific apps as well. Nokia says that with the help of Microsoft the have managed to reach out to over 1000 developers in India. This resulted in the Windows Phone Marketplace getting as many as 750 Indian apps created by Indian partners. All these apps would be available when the phone launches in India next month. This is of course apart from the other 35,000 plus apps available from the Microsoft Windows Marketplace.
Apart from the Apps, both the phones also get Nokia Maps & Drive navigation voice guided navigation in 50 languages including Hindi and dedicated in-car-user-interface. Maps for 100 countries and 750 cities in India are available on Windows Phone Marketplace as well. These are all available as a free to download on Nokia Lumia devices only.
While Nokia is yet to declare the official pricing, it is expected that the Nokia Lumia 800 will retail for around Rs.29,000 while the Lumia 710 will be 10k cheaper at Rs.19,000.
