Nokia’s newest mid range Windows phone powered device, the lumia 820 will be a lesser endowed (ahem) cousin of the Lumia 920 which we talked about here. This phone features a 4,3 inch display with a resolution of 800*480 pixels. The phone features an old Nokia speciality – removable cover options for those who like to customize their phones. Under the hood is again, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip that houses a 1.5 Ghz processor.
While the phone doesn’t boast of its siblings’ PureView branding, it does get a capable 8 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics. The phone gets 8 GB of internal memory and also features an all important micro SD card slot for further memory expansion. Users will also get 7 GB worth of Skydrive storage space which takes the phones overall storage capacity higher than that of the lumia 920’s! The device also gets a 1650 mAH battery under the hood. Like its sibling, the 820 also supports Wireless Charging.
The Lumia 820 will like its sibling, run Windows Phone 8 and will be amongst the first devices to run the latest smartphone operating system from Microsoft.
While Nokia has announced both the devices, like always, they have pushed the launch to the “end of 2012”. I am at a loss as to why Nokia keeps on doing this mistake. If they are ready to announce a phone, they might as well launch it a few weeks after the official unveiling.
The new Lumia range does come with their share of improvements – but to see if these will prove to be really groundbreaking, we would need to wait a few quarters after the launch and judge the same by the reaction of the smartphone using public.
